PSG Overcomes Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the prestigious trophy on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the match featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired two times late to take a surprise lead. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital equaliser in the final moments to send the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for PSG to complete a 4-1 shootout win.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last thirteen seasons.
